Kronan - Customer Case Study

Kronan is an Icelandic low-cost supermarket chain operating 19 stores focused on a high-quality customer experience. The chain faced checkout bottlenecks—especially during peak times or sudden tourist influxes—in compact stores where adding lanes or staff wasn’t feasible, so they sought technology to speed up service and reduce labor at the registers.

Kronan partnered with Advania to install NCR FastLane two-bag self-checkouts integrated with LS Nav, replacing one manned lane with four self-checkouts and retraining staff to act as proactive helpers. The rollout hit targets immediately—over 40% of transactions moved to self-checkout from day one—shortened queues, reduced staff interventions, improved inventory accuracy, increased employee satisfaction by redeploying tasks, and achieved high customer satisfaction; five stores are live and more rollouts are planned.
