A LS Retail Case Study
Best Denki (Singapore), a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Best Denki and operator of 10 stores, struggled with manual processes and an inflexible POS environment that couldn’t handle growing transaction complexity, timely reporting or integrated back-end functions. With no IT department, the retailer needed a complete, easy-to-use enterprise system to improve sale-to-delivery workflows, inventory visibility and reporting across stores, HQ and its distribution hub.
Best Denki implemented an NEC fault-tolerant server with LS Retail and Microsoft Business Solutions–Navision (implemented with NEC Solutions Asia Pacific and EBS Consulting) starting in 2002. The rollout delivered a more intuitive POS with fewer keystrokes and shorter queues, real-time visibility of stock and orders across all locations, automated delivery orders and pick lists, and streamlined finance processes (automated commissions, reduced paperwork). The changes improved stock allocation, eliminated unauthorized markdowns, simplified promotions and cut data re-entry, with further gains expected as warehousing and delivery planning are enhanced.
