CMS Energy uses competition and LRN’s The Resolver game to teach conflicts of interest issues

CMS Energy, through its subsidiary Consumers Energy, was facing significant fatigue and low participation in its annual compliance training. The company partnered with LRN Corporation to find a more engaging method to educate its large, unionized workforce on ethics topics, moving away from traditional individual online courses.

LRN implemented its interactive video game, The Resolver, to teach conflicts of interest. CMS enhanced this solution by creating a team competition with prizes, which was communicated company-wide. The LRN approach resulted in over 500 employees voluntarily participating, with many engaging multiple times and even seeking out preparatory materials. The program successfully generated enthusiasm and deeper understanding of complex compliance issues among both union and non-union staff.
