North American Automotive Manufacturer Trusts Lowry Solutions To Increase The Efficiency Of Direct Part Marking

A leading North American automotive manufacturing company turned to Lowry Solutions after its manual process for sorting, disposing of, and correcting defective parts became inefficient and error-prone. The company needed a better way to track direct part marked (DPM) components that had quality issues, especially since defects were sometimes discovered only after parts were completed.

Lowry Solutions implemented Honeywell Intermec CK71 handheld computers with EA30 high-performance 2D imager engines to scan laser-etched and dot-peened barcodes directly on parts and automatically enter the data into the manufacturer’s system. The solution streamlined defect handling, eliminated human error, improved inventory visibility, and increased operational efficiency; 350 units were deployed, though the case study notes ROI was still too soon to measure.
