Florida International University builds its first IoT degree program with Losant in 2018

Florida International University (FIU) created the first IoT degree program in the U.S. to build a strong workforce in the field. A challenge for Professor Herman Watson was providing students with hands-on experience connecting hardware sensors to the cloud and visualizing raw data. To address this, he turned to the Losant application enablement platform.

Losant was implemented as a core educational tool, providing students with a complete experience of the IoT data flow from physical sensors to cloud-based dashboards. The solution gave students practical exposure to MQTT communications, security, and visualization. As a result, Losant is now incorporated into the curriculum to equip graduates with the foundational knowledge needed for careers in IoT, with program enrollment increasing each semester.
