A Loomio Case Study
Witchcliffe Ecovillage, a planned community of 100 households in Western Australia, faced the challenge of governing itself effectively without resorting to conventional, bureaucratic strata management. They turned to Loomio, an open-source decision-making platform, to reinvent how their residents collaborate and make decisions together in a transparent and democratic manner.
By implementing Loomio, the ecovillage created a structured "ecosystem of engagement" with separate digital spaces for each neighborhood cluster. The Loomio platform provided a transparent archive for discussions, proposals, and final decisions, ensuring equal participation for all residents, including remote owners. This solution has successfully built trust and clarity, allowing the community to collaboratively manage everything from garden rules to playground upgrades, proving that a more democratic and cost-effective alternative to traditional management is achievable.
