ICCA Consortium includes 240 participants across 70 countries with Loomio

The ICCA Consortium, an international conservation association, faced the challenge of coordinating inclusive governance for its General Assembly across 240 participants in 70 countries and multiple time zones. They needed a way to facilitate active participation and consensus-based decision-making without resorting to formal votes, using their chosen vendor, Loomio.

Loomio’s platform enabled asynchronous discussion, polls, and automatic multilingual translation around live meetings. This solution allowed the consortium to successfully run its Assembly, with 43 discussion threads fostering inclusive participation and consensus. The result was effective governance where every decision was reached by consensus, without ever requiring a vote, while fully engaging a globally dispersed membership.
