A Looker Case Study
Kiva is a nonprofit that connects lenders with low-income entrepreneurs and students worldwide—since 2005 its 2 million lenders have crowdfunded over $1 billion in loans to 2.5 million people across 80 countries (minimum loan $25). Because most activity happens online, Kiva accumulated vast, fragmented data but non-technical staff struggled to access it, relying on a few analysts for custom reports and wrestling with slow tools and inconsistent metrics across teams.
Kiva implemented Looker to give departments secure, self-service access to a single source of truth, with dashboards, scheduled reports, and fast ad-hoc exploration. The change sped reporting, aligned metrics across teams, improved fundraising and partner communications, and enabled data-driven initiatives such as the World Refugee Fund (a revolving fund worth over $9 million), helping Kiva better serve lenders, partners and borrowers.
