Helping to balance the grid for a greener energy future

Brightfield, part of E.ON, needed a scalable way to turn transformers into real-time data sources so grid operators could better predict energy demand, anticipate disruptions, and support renewable energy integration. The company chose Google Cloud Platform to handle the huge volume of grid data and keep costs, latency, and security under control, using services such as Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Cloud Bigtable.

With Google Cloud Platform, Brightfield built a secure cloud component for its industrial hardware and even set up customer production clouds in just a couple of hours using Terraform. The results included a 90% improvement in latency, a 95.6% cost reduction, and support for grid load forecasting with 90% accuracy, helping Brightfield scale its solution across Germany and beyond.
