A Looker Case Study
DigitalOcean, a developer‑focused cloud platform used by more than 800,000 developers, set out to be the simplest way for developers to host projects but faced growing pains as it scaled to 13 data centers and larger-team use cases. Early analysis was done in Excel and data was fragmented across multiple teams—infrastructure, analysts, data science and data engineering—leaving no single source of truth, limited visibility into transformations, and operational complexity that Director of Data & Analytics Robert Olson needed to resolve.
DigitalOcean adopted Looker to centralize data, surface the structure and transformations behind analyses, and enable teams to share and dig into “Looks” collaboratively. The result was a trusted single source of truth, cross‑departmental insights and cultural change—data engineering and data science now join five‑ to six‑dataset queries, analysts and product teams access unified metrics, and the company uncovers unforeseen relationships and faster, more informed decisions.
