ITV, the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster, faced a challenge handling huge, unpredictable live audiences on its ITV Hub streaming service, especially during major events like Love Island and World Cup matches. It needed a way to monitor viewer quality and spot issues far faster than its existing analytics could, and it turned to Looker-related reporting tools alongside Google Cloud services to support a new custom viewer analytics solution.
Looker was part of a broader analytics stack that ITV used to make data easier to access and visualize, while the underlying solution processed viewer data in near real time. ITV built the system in just three months, reduced alert times from ten minutes to two minutes, and created a platform that scales automatically to support audiences of up to 1 million online viewers, improving agility and enabling more advanced business intelligence.
