Birdz, a subsidiary of Nova Veolia and a leader in smart water metering and smart city solutions, needed to modernize a costly legacy on-premises database that could no longer handle growing IoT data volumes. The company also wanted faster reporting, better scalability, and a more resilient platform to support its international expansion.

Working with Looker? Not mentioned in the case study—Birdz instead implemented a Google Cloud data pipeline with SFEIR using Cloud Storage, Cloud Dataflow, and BigQuery to process data from over 1.5 million sensors. The new setup reduced export processing time from over an hour to 3 minutes 40 seconds, enabled analysis of about 25TB of data per month, and lowered costs by eliminating legacy maintenance, licenses, and hardware spending.
