Alacris helps better match cancer patients with drug therapies using Google Cloud Platform

Alacris Theranostics, a Berlin-based cancer diagnostics spin-off, needed a way to model how different patients and tumors would respond to therapies, since current cancer treatment is often trial-and-error and only benefits a minority of patients. Using Looker alongside its ModCell™ predictive modeling platform on Google Cloud Platform, the company aimed to run large-scale virtual clinical trials and personalized drug-response simulations more efficiently.

Looker helped Alacris Theranostics organize and analyze the massive simulation results generated by its cloud workload, supporting the ModCell™ system as it evaluated more than 5 million models across 700+ cancer cell lines. The result was a modeling process about 10x faster than on Alacris’ in-house cluster, enabling faster refinement of personalized therapy predictions and improving the potential to optimize drug development and virtual clinical trials.
