Gruner + Jahr, Europe’s largest magazine publisher, needed a faster, more flexible Controlling system to replace a nearly 15-year-old, resource-heavy solution that struggled with new project types, slow reporting and required extensive programming and training. With 20 controllers needing real‑time, individualized reports and integration with existing SAP BW and Access databases, the department could no longer meet the speed and adaptability demands of a changing media market.

The company implemented arcplan Enterprise with support from Stolzenburg & Valera, connecting SAP and ODBC data sources to deliver real‑time, easy‑to‑use reporting. The new system produces the 120‑page executive report in a few clicks, enables ad‑hoc and project-specific analyses (including books and CD series) without programming, supports an online management cockpit, and significantly improved monitoring, flexibility and usability for Controlling.
