AmerisourceBergen Delivers Guided Budgeting, Planning and Forecasting and Puts Finance in Control

AmerisourceBergen, a leading $71B pharmaceutical distribution and services company (with AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation its largest business), faced an inefficient budgeting, planning and forecasting process that left about 60 budget owners and analysts frustrated. Their legacy application provided no guidance, required manual consolidation and schedule management by the finance team, and limited Finance’s ability to partner with the business or respond quickly to information requests.

ABDC implemented arcplan Edge as an Excel-based front end to Oracle Essbase, giving users guided budgeting templates, what‑if modeling, automated consolidation and workflow tracking while shifting application ownership to Finance. The rollout eliminated manual spreadsheet work, cut time and costs, enabled rapid template and report changes, extended forecasting into the same familiar interface, and delivered timely, actionable daily/weekly/monthly reports—positioning Finance as a more proactive partner in performance management.
