How Cognito iQ Uses ELK and Logz.io for Monitoring and Customer Support

Cognito iQ is a cloud-based platform that guides field workers through tasks and presents real-time operational data in drillable dashboards. After moving infrastructure to the cloud, their existing monitoring and logging approach became too costly and manual, consuming developer time. Attempts to use a dated Elasticsearch service and then run their own ELK deployment proved unsustainable given limited resources.

They adopted an ELK-based approach and ultimately moved to the managed Logz.io service for its pricing, pre-built ELK apps, and easy integration (simply reconfiguring Logstash). Cognito iQ now ships about 150 GB of logs per day to Logz.io, which DevOps and support teams use for analysis, geo-location insight, and faster troubleshooting. The switch freed engineering to focus on core work and enabled support to detect and resolve issues proactively.
