Orion Health is a global eHealth software company that partnered with Logicworks in 2010 to build Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) connecting hospitals, clinics, universities, and insurers. Faced with massive storage needs as millions of participants upload records, peak‑use scalability, always‑on reliability, enterprise backup and disaster recovery, strict HIPAA requirements, and an aggressive time‑to‑production, Orion needed a secure, highly scalable infrastructure to support nationwide growth.

Logicworks designed and managed a HIPAA‑compliant solution on AWS using DevOps practices for self‑scaling and self‑healing infrastructure, VPC/DMZ network isolation, encryption, intrusion detection, robust logging and audit reporting, and 24/7 operations. The deployment leveraged EC2, EBS and S3 to scale compute and storage dynamically, enabling the largest HIE network in the country (individual exchanges reaching over nine million participants) and eliminating physical bottlenecks so resources can be provisioned in real time.
