Argo Group, a Bermuda-headquartered international underwriter of specialty insurance and reinsurance, was working to strengthen its enterprise risk management program to meet NAIC ORSA requirements and build a risk-intelligent culture across the organization. The challenge was maturing ERM governance—securing board sponsorship, engaging front-line staff, and creating repeatable processes to balance threats and opportunities.

To address this, Argo increased ERM sponsorship from the board, completed an internal audit of its ERM framework, bolstered risk staffing, and implemented front-line engagement aligned with the Risk Maturity Model. The team put in place an 18-month plan divided into a dozen workstreams, regularly tracked progress, and aligned efforts with S&P’s ERM scoring; these steps helped Argo earn recognition as an ERM leader and establish a repeatable process for continued improvement.
