How San Jose Water Company is reporting effectively through self-made mobile applications with Locus Platform

San Jose Water Company, a tech-forward, investor-owned utility serving about one million customers in Silicon Valley, faced cumbersome environmental recordkeeping across drinking water and environmental programs. Records were largely on paper and in Excel with no validation, backup, or easy mobile entry, which made routine obligations like NPDES annual reporting a time-consuming, manual “banker’s box” review. To modernize, SJWC selected Locus Technologies’ Locus Platform (building on prior experience with Locus EIM) to provide a cloud-hosted, mobile-enabled, and highly configurable data management solution.

Locus Technologies implemented the Locus Platform with in-person training and hands-on support, using configurable “Entities,” field validations, business rules, mobile forms, security controls, dashboards and audit logs. The platform replaced paper logs and manual Excel entry, enabled offline/online field reporting, enforced data quality, and provided backups and reporting tools—eliminating the prior hand-review process for annual discharge reporting and freeing staff time for analysis and other work. Locus Technologies’ solution also positioned SJWC to expand the platform across maintenance, inspection and process logs.
