Case Study: FedEx Corporation achieves reliable global real-time tracking when GPS is unavailable with LocationSmart

A LocationSmart Case Study

Preview of the FedEx Corporation Case Study

Combining Carrier Location and Global Site ID for Logistics Success

FedEx Corporation needed to ensure SenseAware could deliver accurate, real-time location intelligence even when GPS was unavailable—such as when packages are stored indoors or signals are obstructed. To supplement GPS, FedEx selected LocationSmart’s Global Site ID (GSID) and cross-carrier mobile network location services to extend tracking coverage and reliability.

LocationSmart implemented GSID and mobile network location as cloud-based APIs (no app required), enabling FedEx SenseAware to locate devices using Wi‑Fi, CDMA, GSM, WCDMA (UMTS) and LTE while roaming across 200+ countries. The multi-layered solution expanded the number and global reach of locatable devices (backed by ~120 million cell sites and ~1.5 billion Wi‑Fi access points), delivered consistent indoor/outdoor insights when GPS fails, and helped reduce potential operational and service-related expenses.
