A Local Logic Case Study
The Urban Development Institute of Quebec (IDU) faced a challenge when the provincial government considered building a new $2 billion hospital on a suburban site. Concerned that this choice would lead to negative economic and environmental costs from urban sprawl, the IDU sought to advocate for a more sustainable, central location. To build their case, they turned to Local Logic and its Location Intelligence Solutions to conduct a state-of-the-art land use data analysis.
Local Logic evaluated multiple potential sites based on key criteria including accessibility, population density, efficiency, and economic vitality. Their analysis, which synthesized thousands of data sets, clearly demonstrated the superiority of central locations that were well-serviced by transit and surrounded by existing infrastructure. The data-driven report from Local Logic was influential; the provincial government decided to reevaluate and then officially move the hospital site closer to downtown Gatineau, adopting one of the locations recommended by the IDU based on Local Logic's insights. This case demonstrates how Local Logic's technology is critical for shaping sustainable urban planning decisions.
