A Loadbalancer.org Case Study
Dell EMC, supporting a U.S. federal government health sciences university, needed to achieve high availability for its Dell EMC ECS object storage while reducing complexity and operational risk. The university’s older NFS clients relied on UDP and the interim HAProxy setup (layer 7) couldn’t reliably handle UDP-based NFSv3 traffic, causing difficulty listing mounts and risking service interruptions. Loadbalancer.org was engaged to address these availability and protocol-support gaps using its virtual load balancer appliances.
Loadbalancer.org deployed two Virtual Appliances and moved the environment from a layer 7 to a layer 4 configuration, creating separate layer 4 virtual services during a single consultative session. The change immediately improved reliability and protocol support (TCP and UDP), removed performance bottlenecks, and delivered high availability, zero downtime and easy scalability for future nodes. Loadbalancer.org also provided deployment guides and ongoing support, ensuring the Dell EMC ECS deployment could back up and safeguard large volumes of sensitive data more efficiently.
