Belgian Federal Police pilots smart patrol cars with LOAD to identify vehicles in real time

The Belgian Federal Police faced the challenge of needing to quickly identify vehicles of interest from their patrol cars. To address this, they launched a pilot project utilizing mobile Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The vendor LOAD was engaged to develop the necessary software and user interface for this connected car system.

LOAD implemented the solution by creating the software used inside the patrol cars. This system captured data and photos from the ANPR camera, stored them locally in an in-vehicle router, and enabled seamless interaction with the police's existing central database. This allowed officers to act rapidly on real-time information about surrounding vehicles, leading to quicker interventions for stolen cars or vehicles on the run.
