Sky Germany, a broadcaster at the forefront of 5G technology, challenged itself to produce a handball match entirely in the cloud. The goal was to enhance fan engagement by creating a dynamic broadcast that mixed multiple camera feeds using a streamlined cloud-production workflow. To achieve this, they turned to their technology partner, LiveU.

The solution implemented by LiveU involved using several LU800 field units and the LU-Smart app on smartphones to transmit live feeds over a 5G network to the AWS cloud. LiveU’s technology integrated seamlessly with the Vizrt cloud production platform, enabling Sky to remotely manage video switching, graphics, and analysis. The result was a successful end-to-end cloud production that delivered the handball action to viewers in unprecedented 5G transmission quality, setting a new standard for remote virtual productions.
