Harvard Athletics Takes Live Streaming to the Finish Line with LiveU

Harvard University Athletics faced the significant challenge of producing reliable live video streams of its rowing events for alumni, a sport with a large following but which takes place in locations along the Charles River with notoriously poor connectivity. To build community pride and meet viewer expectations for a seamless broadcast, they turned to LiveU and its hardware-based HEVC encoding technology.

By implementing LiveU's HEVC solution, Harvard Athletics successfully streamed regular season and championship rowing races, leveraging cellular bonding to overcome connectivity issues. The results were so effective that the production of the Ivy League Championship was deemed a major success, leading to Harvard being commissioned to produce the event for four additional athletics conferences over a single weekend. This LiveU-powered solution enabled the university to expand its live coverage to more off-campus sports, ensuring viewers can enjoy high-quality broadcasts without being distracted by the production.
