A LiveU Case Study
Canada Running Series, the organizer of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, faced significant production challenges for their premier event. The difficulties of covering a course near water included the high cost and logistical complexity of satellite trucks, lengthy cable runs, and an inability to capture every important vantage point. They needed a more efficient and flexible solution to produce engaging live content for their audience.
The vendor, LiveU, provided a solution using their LU800 HEVC units, which were deployed on motorcycles to wirelessly transmit live video from eight cameras covering the marathon route. This mobile setup, managed by production partner Astrodog Media, eliminated the need for extensive cabling and expensive satellite trucks. The result was a comprehensive and dynamic live stream that featured expansive views of the race and live commentary from expert talent, successfully bringing the event to a global audience.
