Virtual Desktop Environment Saves EHR Access Time for Nurses in Clinical Care Setting

Willis-Knighton Health System wanted to make nurses’ access to electronic health records and patient orders faster and more efficient in a demanding clinical setting. The organization needed a virtual desktop approach that could support 24/7/365 reliability, HIPAA compliance, personalized workspaces, and lower maintenance costs. It worked with Liquidware and RoundTower Technologies to evaluate whether desktop virtualization could meet those requirements.

Liquidware’s ProfileUnity with FlexApp was deployed with non-persistent VMware Horizon virtual desktops to simplify profile management, application delivery, and printer handling. The solution gave nurses a familiar “follow me” desktop, faster logins, and location-aware printing, while also reducing software maintenance and hardware costs. Willis-Knighton expanded the environment from a pilot with a few dozen nurses to 1,300 current users and plans to scale to 4,000 desktops.
