Small Private College in Australia Makes Big Commitment to Facilitate Student Learning Through VDI

Trinity College, a small private school in Colac, Victoria, Australia, adopted VMware Horizon View early to support student learning across 770 virtual desktop users. As classroom demand grew, the college faced boot storms, slow logons, storage IOPS limits, and roaming profile issues that pushed login times to as long as five minutes.

Working with Liquidware, Trinity College evaluated and deployed ProfileUnity to replace roaming profiles, then extended its VDI environment with non-persistent desktops, Teradici PCoIP, and upgraded storage. The changes reduced logon times to just under two minutes, and after moving from Windows XP to Windows 7 and upgrading to the latest version of ProfileUnity, logons dropped to less than 45 seconds. Liquidware’s FlexApp also let IT deliver requested applications within five minutes, helping support printers, classroom software, and at-home learning.
