A Liquidware Case Study
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College needed a more efficient way to support virtual desktops for 42,000 students across three campuses and five regional learning centers. Even after reducing its software portfolio, the IT team still had more than 500 applications to manage, along with many desktop configurations and printer requirements. The college turned to Liquidware and its ProfileUnity FlexApp product to help make the transition to virtual desktops more manageable.
Liquidware’s ProfileUnity FlexApp was added to NWTC’s VMware View v5.1 environment to keep user profiles, settings, applications, and local printer access consistent from session to session. The result was a smoother rollout of approximately 1,000 virtual desktops and faster login times, with users logging in about twice as fast as on physical desktops. NWTC said the move was largely seamless for students and helped deliver a more consistent user experience.
