A Liquidware Case Study
Orange Coast College, in Costa Mesa, California, built a virtual desktop infrastructure for its new 90,000-square-foot Mathematics, Business and Computing Center and needed it ready for the August 2015 fall semester. The college wanted students and faculty to access applications and files from anywhere, but pre-deployment testing exposed slow logins, resource constraints, and performance problems that the team could not explain. Orange Coast College used Liquidware Stratusphere UX and ProfileUnity to investigate the issues and prepare the environment for go-live.
Liquidware helped Orange Coast College reduce profile bloat, remove unnecessary services and configuration items, and identify deeper infrastructure problems affecting login and desktop performance. Stratusphere UX uncovered issues with Office graphics acceleration, AppVolumes settings, storage IOPS bottlenecks, BIOS consistency, and CPU Ready Time; after changes were made, login times improved to around 30 seconds from three-to-five minutes during testing, and one performance issue improved by about 80 percent. Orange Coast College made Stratusphere UX and ProfileUnity permanent parts of its VDI environment.
