Liquidware Labs Solutions Enable NCFE’s Smooth Migration to Non-Persistent Virtual Desktops

NCFE, a registered educational charity and national Awarding Organisation, needed a more mobile, agile and collaborative desktop environment for its 300 users ahead of an office move and hardware refresh. Already using VMware vSphere for virtualised servers, the team wanted to move from Windows 7 fat client PCs to VMware Horizon and also provide a non-persistent desktop experience.

Liquidware Labs recommended Stratusphere FIT™ to assess the existing environment, followed by ProfileUnity™ to migrate user profiles. After a month-long Stratusphere FIT deployment, NCFE identified that all but 20 developers using high-end visual studio applications were suitable for virtual desktops, and ProfileUnity enabled a seamless migration to VMware Horizon. Since the move, desktop-related support calls dropped from about 10 a week to less than 2 a month, logon and logoff times improved, and ProfileUnity helped save storage space by consolidating and compressing user settings.
