Liquidware Labs Helps The Banks Group Mine VDI Solutions

The Banks Group, which develops land for surface coal mining, renewable energy, and residential and commercial property, needed to move desktop services off Windows XP and into a more manageable virtual desktop environment. With more than 400 employees across three regional offices, three opencast mining sites, and a maintenance depot, the company wanted better mobility, scalability, consistency, and robustness while avoiding recurring hardware refresh costs.

Working with Liquidware Labs and The SITS Group, The Banks Group used Stratusphere FIT, ProfileUnity, and Stratusphere UX to audit its environment, support a proof of concept, and migrate users to VMware Horizon View and Windows 7. The result was a stateless VDI environment with more than 85 users migrated, login times cut from over eight minutes to under 90 seconds, and better visibility into the end-user experience and troubleshooting.
