A Liquidware Case Study
Anglia Ruskin University, one of the largest universities in eastern England, needed a way to support a new eco-friendly campus building that would run without air conditioning and use very little power. Its IT team was also dealing with aging Windows XP PCs that were hard to maintain and slow for users. The university chose VMware View and Liquidware Labs’ VDI Essentials bundle, including ProfileUnity, Stratusphere FIT, and Stratusphere UX, to help plan and manage the virtual desktop environment.
Liquidware Labs helped Anglia Ruskin University re-architect its VMware View-based solution around low-power zero clients, shared desktop images, and user profile management. The new environment improved login times and application performance, and the university reported no complaints about the system. The zero client virtual desktops use 30 to 40 percent less power than the physical PCs they replaced, with the potential for another 10 to 20 percent reduction through new power adapters.
