A Liquidware Case Study
Metro Health Hospital, a 208-bed teaching hospital in western Michigan, was an early adopter of desktop virtualization but ran into performance degradation as its VMware Horizon environment grew. With around 2,000 virtual desktop users and limited visibility into inside-the-guest metrics, the IT team could not easily tell whether resource contention, heavy users, or infrastructure limits were affecting desktop performance and login times. It turned to Liquidware products, including ProfileUnity and Stratusphere UX, to improve monitoring and user experience.
Liquidware’s Stratusphere UX gave Metro Health Hospital the visibility it needed into users, machines, applications, and supporting infrastructure, while ProfileUnity helped deliver personalized desktops and manage profiles more efficiently. The hospital says ProfileUnity logins are up to 10 times faster than Roaming Profiles or basic group policies, and it was able to move all virtual desktop users from test to production in 15 minutes during a Windows 7 upgrade. Together, the Liquidware tools helped Metro Health support more than 2,000 virtual desktop users with just two staff members and meet its goal of logins in under 30 seconds.
