MedImpact’s Journey to Database Change Automation

MedImpact, the nation's largest independent pharmacy benefit manager, needed to modernize its database deployment processes to support its agile development goals. Their challenges included inconsistent, manual deployment methods across different teams, which led to errors, rework, and a lack of visibility. To address this, they sought a database change automation solution from the vendor Liquibase.

Liquibase provided the automation solution that integrated with MedImpact's DevOps toolchain. The implementation began with a pilot on two applications and has since expanded to 17, with a plan to reach 60. The results include more predictable, consistent deployments and a clear path toward fully automated CI/CD. MedImpact chose Liquibase after a thorough evaluation and proof of value that demonstrated a significant reduction in deployment costs and rework.
