Liqid’s Composable GPUs Propel Squeeze Animation Studios Artists to New Heights

Squeeze, an animation studio serving major entertainment brands like Disney, Marvel, and Ubisoft, needed a more flexible way to support high-end artist workflows while reducing the cost and complexity of traditional GPU-heavy workstations and servers. The studio wanted to transition to secure, centralized VDI for artists without sacrificing the graphics performance they were used to, and turned to Liqid’s composable infrastructure platform to explore a more scalable approach.

Liqid implemented a Matrix SmartStack 10 solution with NVIDIA A40 GPUs, Dell R750 servers, and Liqid IO Accelerator cards to deliver accelerated VDI and flexible GPU-on-demand provisioning. In proof of concept testing for 10 artists, Squeeze found the virtualized workstations matched or exceeded physical workstation performance, supported 4K 60Hz multi-display workflows, and showed strong disk IO and responsiveness. Liqid also gave Squeeze a path to scale toward 50 artists, improve resource utilization, and reduce rack space, operational costs, and infrastructure waste.
