PlushForums is a London-based PaaS (founded 2014) that offers hosted, user-friendly discussion forums with real-time chat, integrated blogs, member directories, private messaging and subscription billing. As a bootstrapped start-up, the team needed a cost-effective cloud strategy that delivered enough RAM/CPU at key price points, geographically distributed servers to minimize latency, automated provisioning and monitoring, and reliable in-house backups to protect customer data.

After benchmarking providers, PlushForums selected Linode and used its API and Images to spin up a dedicated, geographically optimal server for each customer and automate deployments and backups. The move delivered a strong price-to-performance ratio, automated data preservation, lower latency and greater resiliency—yielding zero downtime so far and 44.3% more requests per second in their tests versus an equivalent DigitalOcean setup.
