Unilever, a consumer-goods giant with 400 brands and €46.5 billion in annual sales, needed to align its employer brand with an ambitious business goal—to grow from roughly €40 billion to €80 billion while reducing its environmental footprint. Unilever formed a cross‑functional team and ran extensive research (surveys and focus groups with employees, candidates and new hires) to define and validate a truthful employee value proposition, “Made By You,” then scaled it through employee training, talent‑scouting incentives and a targeted LinkedIn strategy. Tactical moves—email‑signature follow buttons, five tailored LinkedIn career pages, targeted posts and use of employee networks—grew followers from about 40,000 to 235,000 in 10 months, drove exponential career‑page visits and more hires from LinkedIn, and helped the company become the #1 employer of choice among consumer‑goods firms in 14 countries.
