ITV, the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster with around 4,000 employees, faced a costly, fragmented hiring process: recruitment was handled ad hoc by line managers and agencies, driving an unacceptable £8.5k cost per hire, no consistent interview standards, no time-to-hire reporting, and a need to build an employer brand to attract talent beyond traditional media roles.
By building a nine-person in-house recruitment team and using LinkedIn’s Careers Page, direct sourcing tools and targeted “Follow Us/Work with Us” campaigns, ITV cut agency spend by 80% and attracted high-quality passive candidates. Within a year LinkedIn-sourced hires accounted for 30% of recruitment, time to hire fell to 32 days, cost per hire dropped to £1.2k, the Careers Page gained 25k followers and about 3k monthly visitors, and IT-function visitors grew to 57% of page traffic.
