How Unilever built a community-driven talent strategy

Unilever, a global FMCG leader with more than 400 brands and a Sustainable Living Plan, set out to turn its large LinkedIn audience into a community aligned with its purpose and hiring needs. The challenge was to build genuine engagement and trust—especially around sustainability and authenticity—so the company could attract the right talent and strengthen its employer reputation worldwide.

Unilever invested in LinkedIn Talent Solutions and its employer brand (a 16% budget increase that drove a 25% rise in brand awareness in one year), using targeted content, live dialogue and executive-led events (one Future Leaders session drew 85,000 viewers). Treating followers as future talent paid off: follower growth jumped from under 3M to over 12M in two years, more than 30,000 hires came from the community, time to hire fell by two months, and Unilever saved about €14.7M in costs tied to unfilled roles.
