Minera Chinalco, a mid-sized mining company, faced a skills gap when pandemic lockdowns and social distancing cut off employees’ usual development opportunities. The company wanted to boost employees’ soft skills—leadership, communication, problem solving and business management—and needed a centralized platform to increase training hours and track progress across the workforce.
Minera Chinalco implemented LinkedIn Learning to deliver personalized learning paths for employees at all levels, enabling a mix of foundational and advanced courses and allowing managers to monitor progress and align learning with company strategy. The initiative raised training time by 10 hours per employee, activated 96% of staff, averaged 31 video views per user per month, and logged more than 27,000 hours of learning in 12 months, while reducing the need for overtime or additional training events.
