Valparaiso University supports campus-wide training initiatives with lynda.com

Valparaiso University, a Lutheran liberal arts institution of about 4,500 students and 1,300 faculty and staff, needed to reinvent campus training after attendance declined and a single training specialist couldn’t keep up with evolving needs. The IT team wanted a more proactive, flexible solution that could support the university’s strategic plan, reduce repetitive help-desk work, and better prepare faculty, staff, and students for new technologies.

In 2011 the university adopted lyndaCampus, giving campus-wide access to on-demand video courses and rolling it out through orientations, email, digital signage, and workshops. The result: routine training and basic tech questions shifted to lynda.com, freeing IT to focus on custom projects and migrations (notably to Google Apps), faculty used tutorials to supplement curricula, and staff and students gained career-development and technical skills—helping employees advance and easing campus transitions.
