New York Public Library offers public online job-skills training

The New York Public Library (NYPL), through its Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL), serves millions of patrons and provides free classes and job‑search support but needed to expand its web‑based job‑skills training to supplement hands‑on workshops. SIBL sought an online video‑instruction provider to deliver a broad range of technology, creative, and business tutorials for job seekers and professionals.

SIBL deployed lyndaKiosk licenses across training rooms and multiple NYPL locations, promoted the service through staff referrals and outreach, and integrated it into career counseling. Usage grew rapidly—more than 80% of referred clients use the service—and patrons report improved skills (Excel, Adobe, QuickBooks, etc.) that helped some secure contract work or advance their careers, while staff gained on‑demand training resources.
