A LinkedIn Learning Case Study
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a SUNY college in New York City with about 10,000 students and 1,300 faculty, faced rising demand for software instruction, limited lab and support-staff capacity, and the needs of busy or remote learners. Faculty wanted ready-made instructional videos to supplement classroom time and reduce the burden on technical support, while students — including distance learners and those in high-demand labs — needed up-to-date, self-paced training.
FIT piloted lynda.com in 2010 and in 2012 rolled out more than 9,000 lyndaCampus licenses, giving faculty, staff, and students anytime/anywhere access to short, high-quality tutorials. Adoption enabled flipped-classroom teaching, eased technical-support workloads so teams could focus on complex projects, expanded student and faculty use of tools like Adobe Creative Suite, and boosted professional development and remote learning—usage continues to grow and may even aid recruitment.
