Case Study: WeatherData achieves zero-downtime data center migration with LINBIT DRBD

WeatherData, a weather risk management provider for businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies, needed to migrate 24/7 data processing operations from one site to another without any downtime. Because its mission-critical clustered application servers relied on NFS, the company needed a zero-downtime way to move its data center, but traditional SAN-based replication would have been too expensive and complex. LINBIT’s DRBD® was used to address this challenge.

LINBIT implemented DRBD® on two commercial off-the-shelf servers with large amounts of disk space, enabling remote replication and high-availability NFS services without new hardware or costly SAN infrastructure. The result was a much more cost-effective migration with no downtime, and WeatherData continued using the setup to protect against hardware failure at its new site.
