A LINBIT Case Study
Salinen Austria AG faced a growing storage challenge across servers at two sites about 12 miles apart, with its IT infrastructure’s 2 TB of net data capacity expected to run out as data volume grew by 30% per year. To avoid repeated hardware upgrades and service interruptions, the company looked for a more flexible and cost-effective storage approach from LINBIT.
LINBIT implemented an IP-based iSCSI storage area network using DRBD®, allowing Salinen Austria AG to consolidate many hard disks into a single SAN-like storage box on standard Ethernet and COTS hardware. The result was a solution that cost about a tenth of a traditional SAN, enabled upgrades and maintenance during operation without interruption of service, and delivered significantly lower total costs over three years than other storage options.
