Clear Voice Telecom, a provider of hosted IP PBX solutions, needed a high-availability clustering approach to minimize downtime and maintain strong performance for its VoIP services. After finding Sun Cluster too complex and costly, the company turned to LINBIT and evaluated DRBD® as an open source alternative for its critical telephony and web infrastructure.

LINBIT’s DRBD® was implemented to provide high availability for Asterisk PBX, MySQL, and LAMP-based web services on a pair of commodity servers running CentOS Linux, alongside Heartbeat and Pacemaker. The solution delivered reliable data replication and allowed Clear Voice Telecom to set up its cluster quickly and with less pain than expected, helping the company support redundant VoIP PBX services with a simpler, lower-cost open source stack.
