How the Washington State Department of Corrections Manages its COVID-19 Organizational Testing Program

The Washington State Department of Corrections needed a better way to manage large-scale COVID-19 testing across 24 facilities, including serial staff testing and frequent testing of incarcerated individuals during outbreaks. Its earlier system was difficult to use, especially for recurring orders and high-volume workflows, so the department turned to LigoLab’s TestDirectly direct-to-consumer lab testing and patient engagement portal to support its organizational testing program.

With LigoLab’s TestDirectly, the DOC gained a more user-friendly, scalable workflow with CSV uploads, batch ordering, multi-site access controls, automated result reporting, and easier coordination with multiple laboratories. The program has processed about 200,000 tests since July 2020, supports roughly 5,000 staff tests per week, and has helped the department consistently meet and surpass a 24-hour turnaround-time goal while reducing manual work and speeding result delivery.
