YM Camera is a family-run specialty camera shop in Ottawa founded in 1951 and now managed by Robby Yankush. Faced with the smartphone-driven decline of point-and-shoot buyers and easy online competition from retailers like Amazon, YM Camera needed to differentiate by emphasizing high-end gear, expert services (calibration, repairs, restoration, rentals) and stronger customer relationships to keep people coming to their store.
They implemented Lightspeed eCom and POS to streamline online–offline inventory, speed up listings (used items can be shoppable within minutes), manage rentals and work orders, and enable iPad checkout and remote inventory checks. Combined with targeted outreach through social groups and email, these changes have improved operational efficiency, enhanced the customer experience, and supported strong sales growth—2016 was their best year and 2017 saw month-over-month increases—while reinforcing the store’s trusted brand.
