Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools strengthens support for 21,000+ students with Lightspeed Systems

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS), a diverse district with over 21,000 students, sought to build a more resilient school community by shifting from punitive, reactionary measures to preventative, restorative practices. To support this initiative and provide students with a safe, dignified way to ask for help, the district implemented the HELPme safety and mental health wellness program from Lightspeed Systems.

The Lightspeed Systems solution, HELPme, provided three avenues for support: self-help resources, access to trained crisis counselors, and a direct reporting line to the school. The impact was demonstrated when a community member used the app to report a potential threat, which allowed school administration and local police to collaborate on a security plan that successfully safeguarded a school event with no incidents. Through this program, KCKPS has leveraged the network of support offered by Lightspeed Systems to create a more resilient and thriving school community.
